Tales of Wonder and What If

Welcome to my world of factual fantasy!
I write stories for children (and the adults who read to them) that combine whimsy and truth. My stories are rooted in Nature and filled with talking animals, a host of known Fae, and magical creatures of my own invention.

Besides being fun to read, my stories are intened to teach and to remind. I write to teach those who have never known the squiggly way a tadpole swims or how it feels to be enveloped by a cloud. I write to remind those who know what it’s like to look down from the top of a mountain or the way the air feels at dawn in a forest meadow. I write to keep the knowing of Nature alive.

Raised in the Pacific Northwest, I grew up living by the cycles of the seasons - picking berries in the summer, cutting firewood in the fall, playing games in the not-doing of winter, realivening in the spring. My dad taught me to love trees and summit mountain tops. My mom taught me to love wildflowers and look closely at the forest floor. Life taught me to see a little differently through all I’ve learned.

These days, I live in southern California with my amazing husband and little dog, Peewee. Besides writing, I teach fourth grade, spend as much time as possible in the forest, collect words that feel fun to say, and follow where the magic leads.
